Nautical Cake

Nautical Cake

Inspiration for a Nautical Themed Cake

My latest cake design for a two-year-old little boy who really likes boats. And to come up with this idea and design was nice and easy.

The cake is a chocolate base with 3 layers. Fill with salted caramel buttercream and vanilla buttercream for frosting. I cover this cake with Pettinice icing. In fact, most of my cakes are, as this icing works perfectly well to all my cakes.

Using my blue gel paste color, I dyed my white icing with few shades of blue and rolled them into 14 equal balls (different shades of blue). I use two balls at a time, rolled each of them and twisted them together. Starting at the bottom is important when you wrap your twisted fondant around your cake.
This will give your decoration the foundation to stick on. Also, make sure the twisted fondant is firm enough before stacking another one. As fondant is quite heavy, there’s a high chance your cake might collapse. It needs to settle in and firm enough to be decorated.

As also part of the theme, I have decorated the cake with the telescope, anchor, ring buoy, compass, and helm. What I like the most is my bear cake topper. It took me ages to sculpt him but he turned out really well, I was so pleased.
I wish I have taken more photos so I can show you in details.
Right now, I’m still learning how to set up my camera and all the paraphernalia without troubling anyone (which I think is impossible). Hopefully next time, I will be able to show you fully.
